Welcome to the Canadian Steelpan Industry Conference!
The sounds and story of steelpan will be celebrated at the conference created to explore the rich legacy and evolving future of steelpan in Canada. Proudly sponsored by SoundLife Scarborough, the University of Toronto Scarborough, the event celebrates World Steelpan Day (August 11) by featuring insightful conversations, panel discussions, musical innovations, networking opportunities, live performances and intergenerational exchange.
This year’s event brings together professionals, educators, community members, elders, and enthusiasts from across the country to explore current trends, innovations, and challenges in the steelpan landscape.
The CSIC is produced by artist and researcher Joy Lapps, whose project aims to map the steelpan movement across Canada and help connect and strengthen visibility of performers, tuners, teachers and other contributors. Highlighting intergenerational stories and steelpan’s impact on communities.
Whether you’re a seasoned practitioner or newly exploring the steelpan world, you’ll find opportunities at this event to connect, reflect, and contribute to the ongoing story of steelpan in Canada.
